Hindi Typing (English to Hindi Keyboard)

Type Hindi the way you write Hinglish — namaste, kya haal hai — and it turns into नमस्ते, क्या हाल है as you press space. Free, offline-friendly and private.

  • 100% private
  • Free · no signup
  • Works on any phone

How to use it

  1. Type a Hindi word in English letters, for example mera naam.
  2. Press space or a punctuation mark and the word turns into Hindi. The highlighted suggestion is the one used.
  3. If the spelling isn’t what you wanted, tap another suggestion — or press 1, 2, 3 or 4 while typing.
  4. Copy the Hindi text, copy it as Kruti Dev, or download it as a .txt file.

How to type in Hindi with an English keyboard

This is phonetic typing: you spell the Hindi sound with English letters and the tool writes it in Devanagari. You don’t need to learn a Hindi keyboard layout or install anything — it works in any browser on a phone or computer. Each word is converted when you press space, Enter or a punctuation mark, and a full stop becomes the danda (।).

Tips for accurate Hindi

  • aa vs a: inside a word, type aa for आ (bhaarat). At the end of a word a single a is enough — kya gives क्या.
  • ee vs i: type ee or ii for ई inside a word (deepak). A final i is read as ी (paani, pani → पानी).
  • ri vs R: ri is र + ि (rishta → रिश्ता); R is the ृ sign (kRpaa → कृपा, gRh → गृह).
  • n vs N: n before a consonant becomes ं (hindi → हिंदी). N before a vowel is ण (praNaam → प्रणाम); at the end or before a soft sound it is the nasal ँ (kahaaN → कहाँ).
  • Capital T, D and N give ट, ड and ण inside a word. Words in ALL CAPS, words starting with \ and the English mode stay in English.

Phonetic typing vs Remington and Inscript

Phonetic typing is the easiest way to write Hindi messages, emails and documents. Government typing tests, however, use a fixed Hindi keyboard — Remington (Kruti Dev / GAIL) or Inscript — and judge speed on it. Practise those on the Hindi typing test. Need Kruti Dev text for an office? Use “Copy as Kruti Dev” here, or the Unicode to Kruti Dev converter for longer documents.

Frequently asked questions

How do I type in Hindi on my computer without a Hindi keyboard?

Type the Hindi words in English letters on this page — for example aap kaise hain — and each word turns into Hindi when you press space. No software, font or keyboard setting is needed.

Does Hindi typing work on mobile?

Yes. Use your normal English keyboard on the phone; words convert when you type a space. Tap a suggestion above the box to change a word’s spelling.

The word came out wrong. How do I fix it?

Right after the space, the other spellings stay on screen — tap the right one. While typing, press 1–4 to pick. You can also spell it more exactly, e.g. bhaarat for भारत or hin_di for हिन्दी. See the typing guide under the box for every letter.

How do I type क्ष, त्र, ज्ञ and श्र?

Type ksh (or x) for क्ष, tr for त्र, jn or GY for ज्ञ (jnaan → ज्ञान) and shr for श्र (shri → श्री).

Can I use the text in MS Word or for Kruti Dev?

Yes. “Copy Hindi text” gives Unicode Hindi that works in Word, Google Docs, WhatsApp and websites. “Copy as Kruti Dev” converts it to Kruti Dev 010 for offices that still use that font — paste it into Word and select Kruti Dev 010.

Is my text sent to a server?

No. Conversion happens in your browser with built-in rules and a small word list, so it works offline once the page has loaded. Your text is saved only in this browser so a refresh doesn’t lose it — tap Clear to remove it.
