How to use it
- Download your e-Aadhaar PDF from the official myAadhaar website. Choose “Masked Aadhaar” if the organisation doesn't need your full number.
- Select the PDF here and enter its password: the first four letters of your name in capital letters followed by your year of birth, e.g. SURE1990.
- Type who the copy is for and the purpose — for example “Airtel” and “SIM card”. Keep today's date on.
- Leave “Burn the watermark into the pages” ticked, check the preview, then tap “Add watermark” and download.
Why mark your Aadhaar copy?
An unmarked Aadhaar copy can be reused for anything. A watermark such as “Submitted to Airtel for SIM card only — 21 Oct 2026” records the one purpose you gave it for, so if the copy is attached to something else, that's plain to see — and it points back to where you handed it over.
Use Masked Aadhaar when you can
The myAadhaar website lets you download a Masked Aadhaar, which shows only the last four digits of your number. Many places that just need proof of identity accept it, so ask whether the full number is really needed. Watermark the masked copy the same way.
What to write
| Giving it for | Example wording |
|---|---|
| Bank account or KYC | Submitted to SBI for KYC only — 21 Oct 2026 |
| New SIM card | Submitted to Jio for SIM card only — 21 Oct 2026 |
| Renting a flat | Submitted to Mr Sharma for rent agreement only — 21 Oct 2026 |
| Job or admission | Submitted to ABC College for admission only — 21 Oct 2026 |
Place it across the card (centre, diagonal) at about 30–40% opacity, so it crosses the photo and details but everything stays readable for the person checking.
About the password and the new file
- The password is used only on your phone to open the file. It isn't sent anywhere.
- The watermarked PDF has no password, so send it only to the organisation it's meant for.
- Because e-Aadhaar is password-protected, its pages are saved as images. That's why “Burn the watermark into the pages” is ticked here — the watermark becomes part of each page image instead of a layer on top.
What a watermark can't do
A watermark is a label, not a lock. A burnt-in watermark can't simply be deleted, but someone with image-editing skills could still paint over it. It discourages misuse and makes a misused copy easier to spot — it doesn't make sharing risk-free, so share your Aadhaar only when it's really needed.
Only have a photo of your Aadhaar?
Turn it into a PDF with JPG to PDF first, then watermark that PDF here. For other documents and logos, see the full Add Watermark to PDF tool.
