Rules for each document

Photograph

  • Official: “Dimensions 200 x 230 pixels (preferred)” and “Size of file should be between 20kb–50 kb”; the pre-registration checklist lists “photograph (4.5cm × 3.5 cm)”.
  • Read here as 3.5 cm wide × 4.5 cm high and 200 px wide × 230 px high (not labelled in the advertisement).
  • “Photograph must be a recent passport style colour picture.” Light-coloured, preferably white, background; look straight at the camera with a relaxed face; no squinting, harsh shadows or red-eye; no reflections on glasses.
  • “Caps, hats and dark glasses are not acceptable. Religious headwear is allowed but it must not cover your face.”
  • Para 23: keep copies of the same photograph for later stages and do not change your appearance until the process is complete — failure to produce the same photograph or doubt about identity can lead to disqualification.
  • Format comes from the general scanning rule: “The image file should be JPG or JPEG format.”

Live photograph (webcam / mobile)

  • Required in addition to the uploaded photo: “candidates will also be required to capture and upload their live photograph either by using webcam or mobile phone.” “Capture Photo” uses the webcam; “Click here to Scan” opens a QR code for your phone. No pixel or KB limit is given.
  • Do: light-coloured, preferably white background with adequate light; look straight at the webcam / camera; passport-size framing.
  • Don't: small size photograph; coloured glasses / sunglasses / cap; shadow on face, not facing the camera, distorted face, face covered with mask, blurred image; dark or improper background.

Signature

  • Official: “Dimensions 140 x 60 pixels (preferred)”, “Size of file should be between 10kb – 20kb for signature”.
  • “The applicant has to sign on white paper with Black Ink pen.” Signature in CAPITAL LETTERS will NOT be accepted.
  • The signature is used on the call letter; a mismatch with the signature at the exam = disqualification.

Left thumb impression

  • Official: “File type: jpg / jpeg”, “Dimensions: 240 x 240 pixels in 200 DPI (Preferred for required quality) i.e. 3 cm * 3 cm (Width * Height)”, “File Size: 20 KB – 50 KB”.
  • White paper with black or blue ink, properly scanned and not smudged.
  • No left thumb → right thumb. Both thumbs missing → a left-hand finger starting from the forefinger, then a right-hand finger, then the left toe; write in the uploaded document which finger / hand / toe was used.

Hand-written declaration

  • Official: “File type: jpg / jpeg”, “Dimensions: 800 x 400 pixels in 200 DPI (Preferred for required quality) i.e. 10 cm * 5 cm (Width * Height)”, “File Size: 50 KB – 100 KB”.
  • Declaration text: “I, _______ (Name of the candidate), hereby declare that all the information submitted by me in the application form is correct, true and valid. I will present the supporting documents as and when required.”
  • English only, in your own handwriting, “should not be in Capital Letters”. Written by anybody else or in any other language = application invalid. Use black ink (see conflicts).
  • Candidates who cannot write may get the text typed and put their left thumb impression (if not able to sign also) below it.

NIACL AO declaration text

“I, _______ (Name of the candidate), hereby declare that all the information submitted by me in the application form is correct, true and valid. I will present the supporting documents as and when required.”

Write it in your own handwriting in English, not in capital letters, then use the Declaration tab above.

General instructions

  • Scanner: minimum 200 dpi, True Colour; “The image file should be JPG or JPEG format.”
  • “Your Online Application will not be registered unless you upload your Photo/ signature/ Left thumb impression / hand written declaration as specified.” Photo not in the photo slot / signature not in the signature slot = not allowed to appear for the exam. No certificates are uploaded at the application stage.
  • Biometric data (left thumb impression or otherwise), left-eye IRIS and photograph are captured on the Main (Phase-II) exam day and verified at interview and joining.
  • Upload guidance is in “How to apply” (PDF pp. 10–12).

Where these numbers come from

Every value on this page is taken from the official The New India Assurance Co. Ltd. (NIACL) documents below. If a newer notification is out, it takes priority.

Where official sources disagree

  • Pixel sizes are labelled “(preferred)”; the KB ranges are the limits the form enforces (“If the file size and format are not as prescribed, an error message will be displayed.”).
  • Photo: “200 x 230” pixels and “4.5cm × 3.5cm” are not labelled width × height (aspect ratios 0.87 vs 0.78); read here as 200 px / 3.5 cm wide × 230 px / 4.5 cm high. Thumb and declaration sizes are explicitly “(Width * Height)”.
  • Declaration ink: the pre-registration checklist and the combined “Signature, left thumb impression and hand-written declaration” block say “white paper with black ink”; the declaration sub-section says “black or blue ink”. Black ink satisfies both.
  • The combined block gives “10kb – 20kb for signature and 20kb - 50kb for left thumb impression”, then “Ensure that the size of the scanned image is not more than 20kb” — read as applying to the signature only.
