How to use it

  2. Select a photo or scan from your phone. For the signature, thumb or declaration, the paper is cleaned to white and cropped automatically.
  3. Check the preview: the size and KB shown must be inside the official range.
  4. Download the JPG and upload it to the SSC CHSL application form. Your live photo is taken inside the form itself.

Rules for each document

Live photograph (webcam / mySSC app)

  • Not uploaded as a file: “candidates are required to capture their live photo through webcam/mobile device”. No pixel / KB / format is stated.
  • Good light and plain background; camera at eye level; sit directly in front and look straight; face fully inside the marked area.
  • No cap, mask, glasses/spectacles; no earphones/headphones or any device.
  • Never photograph an existing photo — such applications are rejected.
  • Common rejection reasons listed by SSC: no plain background, wearing a cap, no shirt, photo not bright enough, blurred photo.

Signature

  • Official: “upload the scanned signature in JPEG/JPG format (10 to 20 KB). Image dimension of the signature should be about 6.0 cm (width) x 2.0 cm (height).”
  • Portal screenshot and GD notice add: “at a resolution of 300 DPI”. 6.0 × 2.0 cm at 300 DPI ≈ 709 × 236 px (our arithmetic — SSC does not state pixels).
  • Signature should be horizontally aligned. Cut the box and sign within it so the signature occupies at least 80% of the box.
  • Applications with blurred / miniature signatures are rejected.
  • PwD (VH) candidates may use a thumb impression.

General instructions

  • One-Time Registration (OTR) at ssc.gov.in or the mySSC app; Aadhaar OTP authentication at OTR and Aadhaar face authentication when submitting the application (mySSC app, Android 11+, Aadhaar Face RD app). VH candidates are exempt from face authentication.
  • Aadhaar-authenticated applications “will not be rejected on the ground that photograph and/or signature uploaded by the candidate are not as per prescribed standards.”
  • OTR without Aadhaar: proof of name, date of birth, address, photograph and gender must be uploaded — SSC does not publish a format or KB limit for these.
  • Photo rules: para 9.4; signature: para 9.6; rejected-photo specimens in Annexure-V.

Where these numbers come from

Every value on this page is taken from the official Staff Selection Commission documents below. If a newer notification is out, it takes priority.

Where official sources disagree

  • Annexure-IV 1(b) (p. 53) says “about 4.0 cm (width) x 2.0 cm (height)”, while para 9.6 and the portal screenshot say 6.0 cm × 2.0 cm. 6.0 × 2.0 cm is used here.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to upload a photo for SSC CHSL?

No. SSC CHSL captures your photo live in the application form (webcam or phone camera), so there is no photo file to resize. Follow the on-screen instructions: plain background, face clearly visible, no cap or dark glasses.

What is the signature size for SSC CHSL?

As per the official notification: 6 × 2 cm, 300 DPI, file size 10–20 KB, format JPG / JPEG.

Is 1 KB 1000 or 1024 bytes on these forms?

Notifications don't say, so ToolDabba keeps files safely inside the band — at most 1000 bytes per KB of the maximum and at least 1024 bytes per KB of the minimum — so the file passes either way.

Are my photo and signature uploaded to ToolDabba?

No. Everything is processed inside your browser; your files never leave your phone or computer.
