How to use it
- Tap the document you want to prepare — each one is already set to the size in the official notification.
- Select a photo or scan from your phone. For the signature, thumb or declaration, the paper is cleaned to white and cropped automatically.
- Check the preview: the size and KB shown must be inside the official range.
- Download the JPG and upload it to the RRB Group D application form. Your live photo is taken inside the form itself.

Rules for each document
Live photograph (webcam / front camera)
- “Candidates are not required to upload a pre-existing photograph while applying.” Live photo only — no size / KB / format stated.
- Wear non-white clothing, preferably dark colours, to contrast with the background. No cap, mask, glasses/spectacles. Do not photograph an existing photo.
Signature
- Official: “File size: Between 30 KB and 49 KB”, “Image dimensions: Minimum 140 pixels (width) × 60 pixels (height)”, “minimum resolution of 100 DPI”, “JPG/JPEG only”.
- “The scanned signature must be positioned within the designated scan box on the application form : Box size: 35 mm (width) × 20 mm (height). The signature image should be centered within this box” — a placement box, not a stated image size.
- Black ink pen on white paper, in running handwriting (cursive / joined letters) — NOT in BLOCK, CAPITAL or DISJOINTED letters.
- Rejected for: non-white background, non-black ink, block/capital letters, poor resolution, incomplete signature, thumb impression in place of signature, blank.
- Some candidates with benchmark disabilities may upload a fingerprint image instead.
SC/ST certificate (for free railway travel pass)
- “The document must be in PDF format only.” “File size should be less than 400 KB.” No minimum stated.
- Must be the latest valid certificate as on the closing date of the online application.
Printed passport photo for CBT / DV / medical
- “candidates must bring a colour passport photograph that is not older than two months from the date of the CBTs/DV/ME”.
General instructions
- Uploads at application: only the signature and (SC/ST candidates) the caste certificate. The photo is captured live.
- Shortlisted candidates must later upload true-colour scans of photo and signature before their DV date at oirms-ir.gov.in/rrbdv — no size is published for that step.
- Notices are on the unified site rrb.indianrailways.gov.in (old regional sites did not respond). Its firewall rejects direct PDF links without a browser session, so link users to the RRB page rather than the PDF.
- Para 16.4 (photo), 16.5.1 (signature), 16.5.2 (SC/ST certificate). Corrigenda 1–4 do not change upload rules.
Where these numbers come from
Every value on this page is taken from the official Railway Recruitment Boards documents below. If a newer notification is out, it takes priority.
Where official sources disagree
- The official Group D FAQ (Q.51) still says: photograph 40–70 KB JPEG, signature 30–70 KB JPEG, caste certificate under 500 KB. That contradicts the CEN itself (live photo, signature 30–49 KB, certificate under 400 KB). The CEN is used here; the FAQ text looks carried over from an older cycle.
