How to use it

  1. Choose “Days between dates” to measure a gap, or “Add / subtract” to move a date forward or back.
  2. Pick the dates on your phone’s calendar. The start date is already set to today, so you only change what you need.
  3. For a gap, tick “Include end date” if both the first and the last day should count, as with leave or notice periods.
  4. Read the result — total days, weeks, working days, or the new date with its weekday.

Counting days between two dates

By default the calculator counts the days from the start date to the end date, without counting the end date itself — the usual convention, so 10 March to 14 March is 4 days. Tick Include end date when both days should count (10 to 14 March inclusive is 5 days); leave applications and notice periods often work this way.

Example: from 15 August 1947 to 26 January 1950 is 895 days, or 2 years 5 months 11 days.

Working days

Working days are the Mondays to Fridays in the range. The calendar year 2026 has 365 days, of which 261 are weekdays and 104 fall on weekends. Public holidays are not removed, because they differ between states, banks and offices — subtract the ones that apply to you.

Adding or subtracting days, months and years

  • Days and weeks are exact: 90 days after 1 January 2026 is 1 April 2026 (a Wednesday).
  • Months and years keep the same day of the month — 15 March plus 2 months is 15 May.
  • Month-end rule: if that day doesn’t exist in the new month, the result moves to the month’s last day. 31 January 2026 + 1 month = 28 February 2026, and 29 February 2024 + 1 year = 28 February 2025.

Frequently asked questions

How do I calculate the number of days between two dates?

Choose “Days between dates” and pick the start and end dates. The calculator shows the total days, the same gap in years, months and days, in weeks, and the number of Monday-to-Friday working days.

Should I include the end date?

It depends on what you are counting. For a gap between two dates (age, time until an event) leave it off. For a period where both the first and last day count, such as leave from 10 to 14 March, tick “Include end date” — that gives 5 days instead of 4.

Does the working days count skip public holidays?

No. It counts Monday to Friday only. Holidays vary by state and organisation, so subtract the ones that apply to you from the result.

What is 31 January plus one month?

28 February, or 29 February in a leap year. When the same day doesn’t exist in the target month, the date moves to that month’s last day — the rule most calendars and banks use.

Does the calculator work with my time zone?

Yes. It works only with calendar dates, so the result is the same wherever you are and is never off by a day because of time zones or daylight saving.
